FAA, NTSB investigate close call at New York’s LaGuardia Airport

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating a recent incident at New York’s LaGuardia Airport involving a near collision between two commercial jets. The incident occurred earlier this month when a United Airlines Boeing 737-800 and an American Eagle Embraer E175 nearly collided on the same runway. The air traffic controller quickly canceled the American Eagle’s takeoff clearance, averting a potential disaster. This incident comes as nearby Newark Liberty International Airport faced its fourth air traffic control outage since late April, prompting further investigations by the FAA. The close call at LaGuardia happened in the early hours of the day, with the United Airlines flight taxiing on the same runway as the American Eagle plane, which was cleared for takeoff. The controller realized the danger and instructed American Eagle to abort takeoff, preventing a potential catastrophe.
