As his time with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) nears its end, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk is focusing on his vision for life on Mars. During an interview with Fox News host Jesse Watters, Musk discussed the DOGE team’s discoveries on government waste and corruption and elaborated on his concept of Mars colonization as a form of “life insurance” for humanity.
In the interview aired on “Jesse Watters Primetime,” Musk emphasized the importance of establishing a multi-planet civilization, pointing out that the Earth will eventually be destroyed by the expanding sun. He described Mars as a form of collective life insurance, highlighting the need for humanity to become self-sustaining on the red planet.
According to NASA, the sun will transform into a red giant star as it nears the end of its life cycle, potentially engulfing Mercury, Venus, and even Earth. Musk stressed that his vision for Mars goes beyond mere exploration, aiming to build a self-sufficient city that can thrive independently.
In a social media post, Musk announced plans for a SpaceX Starship mission to Mars by the end of 2026, carrying a humanoid robot. He expressed optimism that humans could start landing on Mars as early as 2029, with 2031 being a more realistic timeframe.
