Ballast Nedam Infra and Hakkers, both based in the Netherlands, have been chosen by German LNG Terminal GmbH (GLNG) to construct a sizable sea jetty as part of an LNG terminal in Brunsbüttel, Germany. Acting as a subcontractor to the primary contractor CS Gas North, a joint venture between Cobra of Spain and Tendons, the duo is set to commence construction of the sea jetty in the summer of 2025, with the project expected to wrap up by late 2026 or early 2027.
Richard Major, Director at Ballast Nedam Infra, highlighted the company’s commitment to collaboration, stating, “Collaboration is ingrained in Ballast Nedam’s culture.” He emphasized the importance of working efficiently alongside Hakkers and CS Gas North, noting that the companies complement each other well in terms of expertise and experience.
The jetty is designed to accommodate ships of up to 267,000 cubic meters (cbm) and will include a smaller berth for LNG bunker vessels and barges. With an unloading capacity of 14,000 cbm per hour and a loading capacity of 3,000 cbm per hour, the jetty aims to facilitate smooth operations for incoming and outgoing vessels.
Hein van Laar, Commercial Director at Hakkers, expressed pride in the company’s role in the project, stating, “As specialists in heavy hydraulic engineering, piling, and steel construction, we are thrilled to contribute our expertise to this venture in Germany.”
Recently, Worley was tasked with overseeing construction, installation, and commissioning services for Phase 2 of the Brunsbüttel LNG terminal, which will involve setting up a permanent jetty and related gas import facilities.
