DOGE Attempts Takeover of GAO

DOGE officials reached out to the Government Accountability Office on Tuesday, requesting their usual access to review and make changes within the agency. The GAO has now informed its staff via email that they clarified to DOGE that the GAO operates as a legislative branch entity and is not bound by executive orders or the executive branch. They have also informed the appropriate congressional committees about DOGE’s attempted takeover. Editor’s Note: The initial version of this report incorrectly stated that DOGE contacted the GAO on Friday, the 16th, when it actually occurred on Tuesday, the 13th.
