AAA spokesperson Aixa Diaz mentioned that initial forecasts were uncertain about how economic worries would impact travel plans, but people still seem enthusiastic about travel, with some choosing to spend less on their trips.

Driving remains the preferred mode of travel, with about 87% of travelers hitting the road. Approximately 39 million people are expected to take road trips, which many find more convenient and cost-effective than flying. Gas prices are lower this year, and other travel expenses, such as vehicle rentals and hotel stays, may also be cheaper. INRIX expects the worst traffic congestion to occur in the afternoons and evenings, advising travelers to plan their journeys accordingly.

While airports are likely to be busy, concerns about air travel safety persist following recent incidents, impacting passenger numbers. Despite this, Cirium reported a slight increase in ticket bookings at various U.S. airports compared to last year. AAA estimates that 3.6 million people will fly during the holiday weekend, a 2% increase from last year. Airfares have also decreased, making flying a more affordable option.

The travel industry will closely monitor travel patterns over the holiday weekend and throughout the summer season. Concerns about tariffs and border issues may affect international travel to the U.S. Meanwhile, Texas state parks are seeing high demand for reservations, and Orlando, Florida, tops the list of popular domestic destinations for the weekend. Seattle and other cities are also expected to attract visitors during the holiday period. Weather conditions may impact travel plans, with soaring temperatures forecasted in the Western U.S. and the possibility of heavy rain in parts of the East Coast.
