Department of Homeland Security Conducts First Self-Deportation Charter Flight of 64 Migrants

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) carried out its initial charter flight transporting 64 self-deporting migrants from Texas to Honduras and Colombia. This charter flight was organized following an offer by the Trump administration, providing $1,000 for migrants residing illegally in the United States to self-deport under Project Homecoming.

According to an announcement by DHS, this was a voluntary charter flight and not an operation by ICE enforcement. All participants were granted the same benefits as any unauthorized alien self-deporting through the CBP Home App, including travel assistance, a $1,000 stipend, and the potential to return to the US legally in the future.

Honduras welcomed 38 of its returning citizens, while Colombia received 26, with both countries offering support and resources to aid in the migrants’ resettlement.

Secretary Kristi Noem stated, “Today, DHS conducted its first Project Homecoming charter flight carrying 64 individuals who willingly opted to self-deport to their home countries of Honduras and Colombia. If you are illegally present here, utilize the CBP Home App to manage your departure and receive financial assistance for your return home. Failure to do so may result in penalties, arrest, deportation, and permanent exclusion. Act now and self-deport if you are in the country illegally, preserving your chance to potentially return legally in the future.”

During the launch of Project Homecoming, the president mentioned, “We’re going to provide each person a specific sum of money, and we’ll arrange a comfortable flight back to their place of origin.”

“We will collaborate with them so that, with some effort, they might have the opportunity to return if they are good individuals, the type of people we desire in our nation,” he added. “This will give them a pathway to re-entering the country.”
