John Deere has introduced the new 510 P-Tier excavator as a replacement for the 470 model, offering improved performance, enhanced fuel efficiency, and various grade management technology options. The nearly 51-metric-ton excavator, previewed at Conneppo-with/AGG 2023, is now on the market.

The 510 P-Tier is designed for mass excavation and site development tasks, capable of handling buckets with fill capacities exceeding five cubic yards. It features a variable-width undercarriage and optional counterweight removal device for increased flexibility during transportation between job sites.

Despite having a smaller engine compared to its predecessor, the 510 P-Tier delivers equivalent horsepower and performance, thanks to a 9-liter John Deere Power System engine that provides 367 horsepower. The new electronic on-demand E-fans replace the traditional hydraulic cooling system, reducing engine load, optimizing airflow, and minimizing fuel consumption.

When compared to the 470 P model, the 510 P-Tier offers cost-saving benefits throughout the machine’s lifespan, including a 12% reduction in fuel consumption during truck-loading operations, up to $7 per hour reduction in total cost of ownership, a 10% decrease in maintenance costs, and a 16% decrease in repair costs.

In terms of comfort and convenience, the cab of the 510 P-Tier comes equipped with various features, including a heated air-suspension high-back seat, ergonomic pilot levers with integrated grade control functions, and a camera system providing 270 degrees of visibility around the machine.

For durability and maintenance, the 510 P-Tier is built with features such as an enhanced front joint, a robust mainframe, box-section track frames, and improved sealing for extended joint life when operating in sandy conditions.

Additionally, the excavator offers grade management technology options like 2D Grade Guidance, 2D SmartGrade Ready Control, or full 3D SmartGrade, with features such as Overdig and real-time distance-to-target measurements to enhance accuracy during operations.
