Colorado SKIES Academy (CSA), an aviation-focused middle school in Englewood, Colorado, is celebrating the success of its drone soccer team, CSA Topdron, who have excelled at both regional and international competitions. At the recent Drone Soccer Rocky Mountain Regional Championships, CSA Topdron impressed by finishing 3rd overall, making them the top-ranked middle school team in Colorado. Notably, several pilots from the high school team, Colorado Early Colleges (CEC), are CSA alumni, with one of them, Harlow Medina, now a CEC freshman pilot, leading the team as captain. Additionally, Tyler Coryell, a CSA graduate now in high school, serves as Top Drones’ assistant coach, showcasing the program’s legacy. The team’s success continued at the Drone Soccer World Cup during the Sun N’ Fun Aerospace Expo in Florida, where they clinched 1st place, distinguishing themselves as the only middle school team among competitors. Beyond their victories, the CSA pilots and coaches have also mentored others, elevating the level of play. The team’s accomplishments exemplify CSA’s values of innovation, leadership, and a love for aviation, according to Drone Soccer Coach Roy Coryell. With students taking the lead, CSA’s drone soccer program is not just a sport but a platform for nurturing future aviators, engineers, and leaders in STEM fields.
