Heather Barbour Fenty, a children’s book author from Raleigh, North Carolina, is embarking on a heartfelt book reading tour in Barbados and North Carolina to relaunch her two picture books, Sea, He Is Just Like You and Me, and Sea, You Can Swim with Many Friends. The stories focus on themes of inclusion, friendship, and celebrating diversity through colorful undersea adventures.
Having lived and taught scuba diving in Barbados, where she met her husband, Fenty drew inspiration from her surroundings and family to write these stories. She is currently based in Clayton, NC, and frequently visits Barbados, making both locations significant for sharing her work.
Fenty emphasizes the importance of accepting and celebrating differences, stating that despite being unique, individuals can still support one another and form friendships. The reading tour will begin in Barbados on June 8 at La Cabane and Hibiscus Café, followed by events in Clayton, NC, and neighboring towns throughout the summer.
Her books introduce readers to Sunny the seahorse and Shaley the scuba diver, who form an unlikely bond in Sea, He Is Just Like You and Me. In Sea, You Can Swim with Many Friends, sea creatures of various shapes, colors, and abilities come together in harmony, highlighting the beauty of diversity.
Both books are currently available in paperback on Amazon and are suitable for children aged 3-8. Fenty’s dedication for the books stems from her upbringing in a close-knit family in Raleigh, where she learned the value of acceptance and unity.
