CEVA Logistics, a subsidiary of the French shipping company CMA CGM, has introduced a new environmentally-friendly ocean freight service connecting France and Ivory Coast. By utilizing marine biofuel, the service is projected to reduce CO2 emissions by 84% compared to traditional ocean freight methods.
The new weekly Less Than Container Load (LCL) service will link Rouen, Marseille, Lyon, and Abidjan to cater to the challenges faced by supply chains in terms of securing reliable transport options from France while also minimizing the carbon footprint of shipments to Africa. This decarbonized service will be available for various types of cargo with weekly departures and a transit time of 24 days between Rouen, France and Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
CEVA’s ocean freight service is part of the CEVA FORPLANET suite, which was launched in November 2024 to provide sustainable logistics solutions aimed at reducing the environmental impact of supply chains. The suite offers alternative fuel options such as marine biofuel for ocean freight, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), and biofuels or electric vehicles for road transport.
In 2024 alone, CEVA managed to avoid more than 26,000 tons of CO2 emissions by utilizing over 10 million liters of sustainable marine and aviation fuels. Paul Bernard, the Managing Director for West Africa and Overseas Territories at CEVA Logistics, expressed pride in the new low-carbon ocean freight service, emphasizing the company’s commitment to innovating sustainable logistics solutions and expanding its capabilities to support customers’ supply chains in a sustainable manner.
