The CarFit program, developed by AARP and the American Occupational Therapy Association, organizes events to assist seniors in ensuring that safety equipment fits properly to provide the best protection. To promote safety among older drivers, Intermountain Utah Valley Hospital, in collaboration with the Utah Highway Patrol and Timpanogos Regional Hospital, is hosting a free CarFit event on Friday, April 25 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The event aims to emphasize the importance of seniors having safety equipment that fits correctly in their vehicles. This is crucial for their safety and the well-being of all occupants. Karie Haws, Trauma coordinator at Intermountain Utah Valley Hospital, likened the CarFit event to a child passenger safety seat check, stressing the vulnerability of older individuals in crashes due to age-related fragility.

CarFit enables older drivers to assess how well they fit in their vehicles, with technicians providing guidance on adjustments that can enhance mobility and safety. The event will be held at the parking lot of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel at 710 S. 800 E., Orem, offering seniors an opportunity to optimize their vehicle setup for maximum safety.
