A man from Solihull, England named Ewan Valentine replaced his stolen Honda Civic with what he thought was a similar car, only to discover it was actually his own stolen vehicle with a fake VIN. Valentine paid over $26,000 for the replacement car, which turned out to be his black 2016 Honda Civic Type-R stolen from its parking space. He noticed peculiar items in the car that matched those in his stolen vehicle, leading him to realize the truth. After taking the car to a Honda dealership, technicians confirmed the VIN was fake and identified it as the stolen car. Valentine believes the garage that sold him the car was unaware of its stolen status. The police are now investigating the car for forensic evidence before it is handed over to Valentine’s insurance company.
