The diagnosis came after Biden reported troubling symptoms and underwent an examination last week.

The statement from Biden’s office revealed that he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer with a Gleason score of 9 and metastasis to the bone. Despite the aggressive nature of the cancer, it is hormone-sensitive, allowing for effective management. Biden and his family are currently exploring treatment options with his medical team.

At 82 years old, Biden had recently made public appearances and hired a communications strategist to shape his legacy. He has a personal connection to cancer, having lost his son to glioblastoma in 2015. Biden’s cancer has spread to the bones, making it challenging to cure, but hormone treatments may help slow its growth.

Biden had withdrawn from the 2024 race and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor.
