Owners of faulty devices can now receive up to 200 euros in reimbursement under the new ‘repair bonus’ program launched in Berlin. This initiative, funded by the state government, aims to promote the repair of electrical appliances like TVs and toasters to reduce wasteful consumption and electronic waste accumulation. The Berlin Senate Department for Mobility, Transport, Climate Protection, and the Environment has made the subsidy application available online for residents.
Individuals can get their defective devices repaired at craft businesses, workshops, or repair cafes, with the city reimbursing half of the repair costs. Additionally, the purchase of spare parts in non-commercial establishments will be subsidized, with the entire cost of the spare part reimbursed. The repair invoice must be between 75 and 400 euros to be eligible for the reimbursement.
The ‘repair bonus’ scheme is part of efforts to extend the lifespan of electric appliances and promote sustainable habits. The Berlin Senate has allocated 1.25 million euros for this initiative until the end of the year, with the possibility of extension in the future uncertain. Originally planned to start on September 1st with a larger budget, the program was slightly delayed and launched with the current funding.
