A Baldwin Park police officer was fatally shot and another was injured during a shooting on Saturday evening. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department announced during an early Sunday press conference that they were investigating a double homicide. The incident involved a man who shot and killed a Baldwin Park police officer and another adult male, who was found dead from gunshot wounds. The suspect was wounded and has been apprehended.
Baldwin Park Police Chief Robert A. López stated that the injured officer has been reunited with his family and is recovering. López expressed sorrow over the tragic event. The officers were responding to reports of a suspect firing rounds with a rifle when they were met with gunfire upon arrival. The weapon used in the shooting has been recovered. The names of the officers have not been disclosed as authorities are still reaching out to their families.
Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna mentioned that his agency will lead the investigation, and the number of shots fired remains unknown. The neighborhood where the shooting occurred, typically peaceful, was surrounded by law enforcement agencies following the incident. Both injured officers were transported to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center for treatment.
