Austin Metcalf: Slain Track Star’s Family Was Victim of ‘Swatting’ Call

Police in Frisco, Texas were called to the home of Austin Metcalf’s family following a reported gunshot on Thursday. However, authorities determined that no shooting had taken place, labeling the incident as a case of “swatting” – a false report made to provoke an emergency response. The caller’s identity and details remain undisclosed by the police.

This development comes shortly after Jeff Metcalf, Austin’s father, was removed from a press conference involving Karmelo Anthony’s parents. Anthony stands accused of fatally stabbing Austin during a disagreement over seating at a Frisco track meet on April 2. Metcalf was seen at the conference wearing sunglasses and occasionally speaking on his phone before being asked to leave by Dallas police about 40 minutes past the scheduled start time.

According to CBS News, Metcalf clarified that he did not intend to speak at the press conference but was present to listen to the proceedings. Meanwhile, Anthony’s mother, Kala Hayes, and the advocacy group Next Generation Action Network claimed that their family has faced threats and harassment in the aftermath of the stabbing.

Hayes expressed frustration over the false accusations and threats directed at them, emphasizing that her family did not deserve such treatment. She extended sympathies to the affected family and gratitude to their supporters. Anthony is currently out on bail, under house arrest, wearing an ankle monitor, and restricted from contacting Metcalf’s family, having to report to a bailiff weekly. Stay tuned for updates on this ongoing case.
