In Manhattan’s Soho neighborhood on May 6, authorities stated that the pair enticed the victim into an eight-bedroom apartment to rob his Bitcoin wealth. William Duplessie surrendered to the New York Police 13th Precinct on Tuesday for charges of kidnapping and false imprisonment. A 28-year-old Italian national managed to escape from the upscale townhouse where he alleged he was tortured for nearly three weeks by captors who wanted access to his Bitcoin account. Duplessie, 32, faces charges like kidnapping, assault, and illegal possession of a weapon. The victim reported being physically abused and threatened during his captivity. Another suspect, John Woeltz, was arrested and charged in connection with the kidnapping. The victim was able to flee the house as the suspects retrieved his computer, seeking help from a traffic agent. The townhouse search revealed various incriminating items, and the victim was hospitalized for his injuries. Duplessie is scheduled for arraignment in a Manhattan court on Tuesday afternoon.
