In Delhi on April 22, 2025, Olympus Medical Systems India Pvt. Ltd. (OMSI), a company under the Olympus Group, revealed the successful introduction of new restroom facilities at eight government schools in key locations in India. This achievement is part of OMSI’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) project, the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Program. By actively supporting community health and education with long-term initiatives, OMSI and Olympus Corporation (Olympus) continue to prioritize the advancement of education for the next generation in India.
The WASH Program, a CSR project by OMSI spanning a decade, is focused on enhancing school infrastructure by building and refurbishing restrooms to ensure students, particularly girls, have access to clean and safe sanitation facilities. This effort tackles significant issues in sanitation, hygiene, and child health that have a direct impact on education. Reports indicate that one in four girls in India drop out of school due to inadequate toilet facilities, underscoring the crucial role of this initiative in promoting gender equality and continuous education.
During the fiscal year ending in March 2025, marking the 10th year of the program’s existence, OMSI constructed restroom facilities in eight government schools across four major locations – Delhi NCR, Kolkata, Chennai, and Mumbai. This initiative has provided better sanitation amenities for over 2,700 students and improved hygiene standards within the school communities. In March 2025, inauguration events were held at these schools, attended by OMSI executives, school principals, and other officials. Over the past ten years, the company has contributed to creating clean learning environments for approximately 7,000 students in 30 schools through this program.
Moreover, OMSI’s Olympus Arogya Bachpan (Disease-Free Childhood) Program conducted health check-ups, distributed nutrition kits, and organized awareness sessions on essential topics such as personal hygiene and safety for approximately 450 students across two schools. Initiated in 2018, this program aims to enhance student well-being through hygiene education, child safety awareness, and health check-ups, aiding in the fight against malnutrition and promoting healthy habits for life.
Established in 2009, OMSI has remained dedicated to promoting health, hygiene, and awareness through these endeavors, positively impacting numerous children across India and enabling them to pursue education in safe and hygienic surroundings. Naoshi Kikumoto, Managing Director of OMSI, expressed the company’s commitment to fostering a brighter and healthier future for children and communities in India through their CSR programs. Collaborating with Olympus, OMSI will continue to advance global corporate responsibility to enhance the well-being of individuals in India and beyond.
