A Blank Canvas

The Wife has once again left me amazed after nearly twenty-five years of marriage. I’m often asked how she surprises me, and I can reveal that all it takes is a blank canvas to render me speechless for hours. Last weekend, she presented me with an enormous blank canvas, ensuring my silence for months. When faced with new beginnings like starting a new grade or job, or even marriage and parenthood, we are handed blank canvases to paint our lives anew. Life presents us with countless opportunities to repaint and start afresh. Last Saturday, The Wife suggested I paint a mural of trees on our dining room walls, creating the biggest canvas I’ve ever worked on. Despite this new project, my most important canvas is still a work in progress after over sixty years of repainting and restarting. Life is the ultimate blank canvas, and it’s up to us to paint our unique and wonderful masterpiece by choosing our colors wisely.
