2025 Volvo EX30 Interior Review: Quirky and Cool

The new small electric SUV from Volvo, the EX30, is generating positive expectations. Being the brand’s fastest and most cost-effective model, it seems poised for success. Despite being the smallest vehicle in the lineup, designers had to be innovative to maximize space.

When Volvo provided us with a Moss Yellow twin-motor Performance model to test, we gained a true sense of the EX30’s compact size and the adjustments made by engineers. Spending a week with this small SUV allowed us to discover its unique features and appreciate its interior layout. Despite a minor issue, the EX30 offers a pleasant driving experience.

Measuring 72.4 inches in width and 166.7 inches in length, the Volvo EX30 is notably small. It is surpassed in compactness only by the Mini, with the 2025 Cooper hardtop four-door measuring 68.7 inches wide and 158.9 inches long. While the EX30 is said to accommodate five passengers, fitting three adults comfortably in the back row may be a challenge. Front headroom and legroom measure 41.7 and 41.9 inches, respectively, while the rear dimensions are smaller at 38.3 and 32.3 inches.

The EX30 offers more space in the front row compared to the larger XC40, with the latter providing 39 inches of front headroom and 40.9 inches of legroom. The panoramic roof in the EX30’s backseat helps create a more airy atmosphere, although the front seats may not offer the same expansive view.

Despite its compact size, the EX30’s cargo capacity is limited, but the thoughtful packaging of the small SUV is commendable. With 12.4 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats and 27.8 cubic feet when the seats are folded, the EX30 makes efficient use of its interior space. The Mini offers less trunk space at 8.9 cubic feet, but with the rear seats stowed, it provides more cargo volume at 34.4 cubic feet. The XC40, being larger, offers 16 cubic feet behind the second row and 57.5 cubic feet with the seats folded.

The cabin of the EX30 is characterized by its minimalist design, resembling elements seen in Tesla vehicles and other modern EVs. The 12.3-inch center touchscreen serves as the main feature on the dashboard, with no separate gauge cluster. While the touchscreen is responsive and visually appealing, the absence of physical controls on the center stack may pose a challenge for drivers.

Unique design elements, such as the vertical vents and eco-friendly interior accents, add to the EX30’s appeal. The SUV’s seating is comfortable, and the center console design, reminiscent of small sports cars, provides additional storage solutions. Despite its limitations in space, the EX30 is praised for its clever design and Volvo’s distinctive styling.
