The Presidential CNG Initiative (PCNGI) has disclosed that there are currently over 50,000 CNG-fueled vehicles in operation nationwide. The initiative has also established more than 250 conversion centers and 55 operational stations. The Program Director and Chief Executive of the PCNGI shared this information during the official launch of PCNGI operations in Yola, Adamawa State, on June 3, 2025, at the commissioning of the Greenville Liquefied and Compressed Natural Gas (LCNG) facility.

Described as the first of its kind in Nigeria’s North East region, the facility is seen as a significant advancement in providing cleaner and more cost-effective energy solutions, according to a statement from PCNGI. During the event, the PCNGI Conversion Incentive Program was introduced, which aims to make compressed natural gas more accessible and affordable to the public.

With investments totaling $500 million, the initiative is in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to industrialize Nigeria by utilizing domestic gas resources. The ceremony was attended by dignitaries such as the Deputy Governor of Adamawa State, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, and the Chairman of Greenville.
