Sarah Milgrim, one of the Israeli Embassy staffers who were tragically killed in Washington, D.C. last week, was honored at a private funeral in her hometown community in Kansas. Milgrim, a 26-year-old from Prairie Village, Kansas, and her colleague Yaron Lischinsky were shot to death on May 21 as they were leaving an event at the Capital Jewish Museum. The suspect, 31-year-old Elias Rodriguez, shouted pro-Palestine slogans during his arrest.

Lischinsky had plans to propose to Milgrim before the shooting. Instead of celebrating their engagement, Milgrim was remembered at a private service in Overland Park, Kansas, where she had attended temple as a child. Rabbi Doug Alpert delivered a heartfelt eulogy, recalling Milgrim’s loving and empathetic nature.

Milgrim, who held a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies and a master’s degree in international affairs, worked at the Israeli Embassy organizing events and missions to Israel. She had a background in conflict resolution and had previously worked on technology training and dialogue between young Palestinians and Israelis.

Milgrim’s commitment to peace and bringing people together was praised by colleagues and community members. Despite facing backlash for her beliefs, she remained dedicated to promoting understanding and unity. Sheila Katz, CEO of the National Council of Jewish Women, highlighted Milgrim’s efforts in working with diverse groups to foster peace.

Milgrim’s tragic death has left a void in her community, where she was known for her warmth and positivity. Her legacy as a peacemaker and advocate for human rights will be remembered by those who knew her.
