In the first quarter of 2025, India exported 12.5GW of module capacity, with over half of the modules coming from the top five manufacturers, led by Waaree with over 2GW. Chinese manufacturer TrinaSolar was among the only two international companies exporting capacity to India during this period. Domestic manufacturers accounted for almost 90% of the total capacity shipped.

A total of 24 manufacturers shipped capacity in the first three months of 2025, with four exporting a combined 572MW. Adani and Waaree, Indian manufacturers, doubled their quarterly module capacity exports. The US was the primary market for solar PV module exports in Q1 2025. Nine domestic manufacturers announced plans to build 17.8GW of annual nameplate capacity for modules.

Various manufacturers commissioned module and/or cell capacity during Q1 2025, including Tata Power, Avaada, Goldi Solar, and Waaree. The Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) saw an addition of 11.8GW of new capacity in Q1 2025, bringing the total annual nameplate capacity across more than 90 manufacturers to 74.23GW.

India installed nearly 7.8GW of solar PV in Q1 2025, with 5.93GW from utility-scale installations. This marked a 12.2% increase from the previous quarter. The country had a total of 105.6GW of solar PV installed by the end of March 2025, with an additional 70.9GW in the pipeline.

JMK Research forecasts 11.9GW of utility-scale solar PV additions in the next two quarters and anticipates adding 30.2GW of new solar capacity in fiscal year 2026, including 21.1GW from utility-scale, 7GW from rooftop solar, and 2.05GW from off-grid installations.
