Japanese automaker Nissan, which has been losing money, is pinning its hopes on its latest “e-Power” technology to change its fortunes. The e-Power system, similar to a hybrid, combines an electric motor and a gasoline engine, providing a continuous and quiet driving experience without the need to recharge like traditional electric vehicles. Chief Technology Officer Eiichi Akashi highlighted Nissan’s tradition of innovation and the advantages of the e-Power technology, emphasizing the company’s efforts to revamp its lineup and reduce costs. Amid financial struggles and the challenges posed by the North American market, Nissan is streamlining its workforce and production facilities as part of a recovery plan led by its new Chief Executive Ivan Espinosa. The company is also exploring partnerships and new technologies, including solid-state batteries for future electric vehicles. Despite rumors of cash flow issues, Nissan is pushing forward with its e-Power models, already available in some markets and set to expand to the U.S. with the new Rogue.
