‘Un Simple Accident’ wins top prize at Cannes Film Festival

Elle Fanning, Stellan Skarsgard, Joachim Trier, Anders Danielsen Lie, Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas, and Renate Reinsve were present at the Cannes Film Festival premiere of “Sentimental Value.” The Palme d’Or at the festival was awarded to Jafar Panahi’s “A Simple Accident.” Joachim Trier’s “Sentimental Value” received the Grand Prix, Kieber Mendonca Filho won Best Director, and Wagner Moura was named Best Actor for “The Secret Agent.” Nadia Melliti won Best Actress for “La Petite Dernière,” and Jean-Pierre Dardenne and Luc Dardenne received the Best Screenplay award for “Young Mothers.” A power outage in the South of France was resolved before the awards were announced at the festival’s closing ceremony. Scarlett Johansson was also seen at the Cannes Film Festival, attending a photo call for her movie “Eleanor the Great” on May 21, 2025.
