Yinson GreenTech, Wilhelmsen Ships Service roll out electric vessel charging station in Singapore

Yinson GreenTech, a Singapore-based provider of green technology solutions, has introduced an electric vessel charging station in collaboration with Norwegian maritime solutions provider Wilhelmsen Ships Service (WSS) at WSS’s Pandan Loop facility in Singapore. This joint initiative marks the first of its kind between the two companies, with additional rollouts planned for the future.

The charging station is equipped with six IP67-rated CCS2-ready power outlets of varying industrial capacities to support a range of electric harbor crafts. It incorporates dynamic load balancing and adaptive load management to ensure efficient power distribution and support the increasing demand for electrification. According to Kjell Andre Engen, President of Wilhelmsen Ships Services, the transition from internal combustion engines to modern electric harbor crafts can significantly reduce emissions and improve air quality at ports.

Jan-Viggo Johansen, Managing Director of marinEV, Yinson GreenTech’s marine electrification division, emphasized the importance of infrastructure readiness in advancing maritime electrification. The collaboration aims to support the growing fleet of electric harbor craft, including Yinson GreenTech’s electric cargo vessel Hydromover 2.0 and electric passenger hydrofoil vessel Hydroglyder, through innovative charging solutions like the newly launched station.

Yinson GreenTech and Wilhelmsen Ships Service had previously signed an agreement to develop the charging infrastructure for Singapore’s first fully electric cargo ship, Hydromover, and later partnered with R W Marine Services to promote marine electrification in the country through a memorandum of understanding (MOU). Under the MOU, RW will lease and manage the electric vessels provided by Yinson GreenTech, while WPS plans to charter these ships from RW for zero-emission launch services.
