Louis Dreyfus Armateurs (LDA), a French maritime company, has partnered with Technip Energies, a fellow technology and engineering powerhouse from France, to collaborate on a vessel that will store and convert ammonia into hydrogen. This partnership is part of LDA’s FRESH solution, a ship-based facility for low-carbon ammonia and hydrogen processing and storage. The vessel, measuring 170 meters long with a storage capacity of 45,000 cbm for ammonia, will have an integrated cracking plant on its deck to convert the stored ammonia into hydrogen. The companies believe that this floating hydrogen terminal will revolutionize sustainable energy logistics. The vessel, which can be relocated according to hydrogen demand, will feature Technip Energies’ high-energy efficiency ammonia cracking technology. LDA will be responsible for the vessel’s hull design, construction, and operation. Mathieu Muzeau, LDA’s Transport & Logistics Managing Director, expressed that the partnership with Technip Energies is a crucial step in developing a reliable and efficient solution with minimal greenhouse gas and nitrogen oxide emissions. The memorandum of understanding between LDA and Technip Energies was signed in April 2025, marking the start of their collaboration.
