Taylor Jenkins Reid’s success has been consistent since the release of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo in 2017. Each subsequent novel has been eagerly awaited, widely read, and a frequent topic of conversation. Her upcoming ninth book, Atmosphere, is scheduled for publication by Ballantine Books in June, but there is more to look forward to from Reid. Here’s the latest news on Taylor Jenkins Reid.

Although Atmosphere won’t be available until June 3, a movie adaptation is already in development. The project is from LAIKA’s live-action division and will be directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Captain Marvel). The production team includes Travis Knight, Matt Levin, Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck, Taylor Jenkins Reid, and Brad Mendelsohn, with Jeremy Kipp Walker as an executive producer. LAIKA is collaborating with Circle M+P, the company responsible for the series adaptation of Daisy Jones & The Six.

In other adaptation news, Serena Williams will executive produce a TV series based on Reid’s tennis-themed novel Carrie Soto is Back. The series will also be produced and written by Amanda Kate Shuman (The Wheel of Time, Berlin Station). While the book doesn’t directly mirror Serena Williams’s tennis career, the adaptation is expected to draw some inspiration from it.

Taylor Jenkins Reid is not only venturing into film but also into theater. She has penned a jukebox musical titled Goodbye, Earl, in partnership with the country music band The Chicks. Co-written with childhood friend Ashley Rodger, Reid described the project as “a story about what you would do to protect your friend.” There is no confirmation yet on whether Goodbye, Earl will hit Broadway.

For more insights into Taylor Jenkins Reid’s life and writing process, check out her recent interview with TIME Magazine, released on May 15. In the interview, Reid discusses her bisexuality, gender expression, and how these aspects influence her writing. Atmosphere will showcase a “high-stakes, dramatic love story” between a woman in space and another on Earth. “My attraction to women is a room in the house that is my identity,” Reid shared with TIME. “This book allowed me to spend time in that room.”
