A young woman from China left doctors puzzled after she suddenly lost the ability to speak English, a language she was fluent in. Wan Feng, the director of the Department of Neurosurgery at Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital in Guangzhou, shared a video of the 24-year-old woman who experienced a strange incident during a class, causing her to speak only Mandarin and Cantonese instead of English. Despite being proficient in English before the incident, she could no longer communicate in that language.
Following her sudden language impairment, the woman sought medical assistance and was admitted to the neurosurgery department at the hospital. Initially, doctors suspected a brain tumor affecting her language skills, but an MRI scan revealed a cerebral hemorrhage in the left motor area of her brain, causing the loss of her English-speaking ability.
After undergoing brain surgery to alleviate the brain pressure, the woman regained her English-speaking capability, allowing her to resume her studies abroad. Her condition sparked humor on social media, with some users jokingly inquiring if a similar surgery could help them speak foreign languages better. The incident led to lighthearted comments, with individuals playfully suggesting scheduling surgeries for different languages.
