A Mexican Navy sailing ship crashed into the Brooklyn Bridge, causing the deaths of two crew members. The incident occurred on Saturday night, with 277 individuals on board, resulting in 22 injuries, half of which are critical.

The ship was departing from Pier 17 on a goodwill tour when it lost power and collided with the bridge. The impact caused casualties among the crew members who were on the masts at the time.

Mayor Eric Adams confirmed the fatalities on social media, stating that the ship had experienced a power loss before the accident. The Mexican President, Claudia Sheinbaum, also expressed condolences for the deceased crew members.

One of the victims was identified as América Yamileth Sánchez Hernández from Veracruz, with the state governor offering sympathies to her family. A total of 22 individuals were injured in the crash, with some in critical condition, according to the Mexican Navy.
