A new relief organization called Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, with support from the United States and Israel, is set to provide over 300 million meals to starving Palestinians in the Gaza Strip over the next 90 days. The foundation aims to ensure its own security in the region and prevent aid theft by Hamas. Since the cease-fire between Israel and Hamas ended, Israel has halted food, water, and medicine supplies to an estimated 2.5 million people in Gaza, putting 500,000 individuals at risk of starvation. The foundation plans to launch operations in Gaza soon, providing aid to 1.2 million people initially, with the capacity to assist over 2 million. The cost of each meal is estimated at $1.30, including procurement, logistics, distribution, and security measures. The organization is working to prevent diversion of aid and ensure it reaches those in need. The foundation’s executive director, Jake Wood, emphasized the urgency of acting swiftly to address the critical food insecurity in Gaza. The United Nations warned of high levels of acute food insecurity in the region, urging for immediate humanitarian assistance. Israel has been urged to facilitate aid flow until the foundation’s distribution infrastructure is fully operational. The foundation is seeking donations to support its mission of providing essential aid to the vulnerable population in Gaza.
