According to DNV grid analyst Andrea Mansoldo, the blackout in Spain on April 28 was likely caused by a combination of grid weakness and low-frequency oscillations, rather than a disconnected solar plant as speculated by some media outlets. The incident was not attributed to renewable energy sources, as Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez clarified in a recent press conference. Mansoldo pointed out that the blackout may have been linked to the Gemasolar concentrated solar power (CSP) plant in Seville, but further investigations are needed to determine the exact cause.
