Russian attacks on Ukraine intensify in make-or-break week for peace talks

The Ukrainian military reported an escalation in fighting by Russia during a crucial week for peace talks, said Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Despite Russian President Vladimir Putin announcing a three-day ceasefire next month, 177 combat clashes, including 91 airstrikes, have occurred. Gen. Oleksandr Syrskyi stated that the intensity of fighting has increased despite the ceasefire declarations.

Rubio expressed a somber tone on the peace deal, mentioning that the sides are not yet close enough for a resolution. He emphasized the importance of the upcoming week in determining the continuation of mediation efforts. President Donald Trump aims to bring Putin to the negotiation table with Ukraine and is considering additional sanctions against Russia.
