Who’s optimistic about renewable energy? People in Africa and the Middle East

The progress towards renewable energy varies depending on the region, according to a recent survey conducted by GlobeScan. While less than half of North Americans are optimistic about the transition, a significant 80 percent of respondents from Africa and the Middle East believe it will happen soon.

This positive outlook in Africa and the Middle East could be attributed to proactive policy measures in countries like South Africa, which have made strong commitments to renewable energy. Latin America and the Asia-Pacific region also show high optimism levels, with around two-thirds of the population expecting the transition to renewables within the next decade.

Conversely, only 46 percent of North Americans share the same confidence, possibly influenced by political divisions, slow federal progress, and a continued dependence on fossil fuels. Europeans are slightly less hopeful than the global average, likely impacted by various factors including the recent energy challenges stemming from the conflict in Ukraine.

The survey results highlight the need for companies operating in diverse markets to acknowledge the varying public perceptions on clean energy. In optimistic regions like Africa, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America, businesses have the opportunity to take a leading role in promoting renewable energy solutions. In regions with lower confidence such as North America and Europe, companies may need to focus on building trust, showcasing feasibility, and aligning with local contexts to demonstrate their commitment to making widespread renewable energy adoption a reality.
