A developing political scandal in Florida has Gov. Ron DeSantis on the defensive

Republican legislators in Florida are looking into how $10 million of state funds were redirected to support a political campaign associated with Gov. Ron DeSantis’ wife. The money was part of a settlement from Centene, a Medicaid managed care provider, and was transferred to a non-profit founded by Casey DeSantis. The non-profit then funneled the funds to two undisclosed political groups, which in turn supported a campaign against a marijuana legalization amendment. Although the investigation did not directly implicate Governor DeSantis, it has caused tension between him and Republican leaders in the legislature. Attorney General James Uthmeier, who was involved in the fund transfer, denies any wrongdoing. The matter is now under review by federal prosecutors.
