‘World’s Coolest Dictator’ Proposes Prisoner Swap For Trump Deportees

Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele has suggested a prisoner exchange with Venezuela, proposing to swap Venezuelan deportees from the United States for what he refers to as “political prisoners” in Venezuela. Bukele addressed President Nicolás Maduro on social media, mentioning family members of opposition figures, journalists, and activists detained in Venezuela. He suggested repatriating 252 deported Venezuelans in exchange for the release of an equal number of political prisoners held in Venezuela. The Venezuelan prosecutor’s office criticized Bukele’s proposal, calling him a “neofascist” and demanding information on the detainees. The controversy comes as El Salvador faces scrutiny for its treatment of deportees and the construction of a controversial prison under Bukele’s administration.
