On April 21, Luis Arraez rejoined his team’s clubhouse following a collision with Mauricio Dubon at first base and a short hospital visit during a San Diego Padres victory over the Houston Astros. The incident took place in the first inning of the 3-2 win on Sunday in Houston. Arraez assured his followers on Instagram that he had undergone tests at Houston Methodist Hospital and there was no cause for concern.
The Padres confirmed that he was in stable condition, conscious, responsive, and able to move his limbs. Padres manager Mike Shildt expressed concern about a cut on Arraez’s jaw but remained cautiously optimistic about his condition. Despite initial worries, tests showed no fractures, and Arraez’s concussion evaluation had positive results.
Arraez, an All-Star first baseman, was involved in the collision while attempting a sacrifice bunt in the game. He was replaced by Gavin Sheets in the designated hitter position after the incident. Arraez later posted on Instagram thanking everyone for their support and assuring them of his well-being after the scare.
In the game, Arraez was credited with a sacrifice, while star outfielder Fernando Tatis Jr. had an impressive performance. The Padres improved their record to 16-6 and are set to face the Detroit Tigers next, while the Astros will host the Toronto Blue Jays.
