Trump opens massive marine protected area to commercial fishing

President Donald Trump of the United States has endorsed a declaration permitting commercial fishing in the Pacific Islands Heritage Marine National Monument (PIH), an extensive marine preserve inhabited by endangered fish, sea turtles, and marine mammals. The declaration specifies that American-flagged ships are now authorized to engage in fishing activities within 50-200 nautical miles (90-370 kilometers) inside the boundaries of PIH.
