According to Reuters, Nintendo has announced that preorders for the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 gaming system will start on April 24, with prices beginning at $449.99. Originally scheduled for April 9, the preorder date was delayed by Nintendo to evaluate the impact of the recent “reciprocal” tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump.

Many electronics companies, including Nintendo, manufacture their products in Asia. The first Switch consoles were produced in China and Vietnam. President Trump has imposed tariffs on Chinese products at a rate of 145% and on Vietnamese goods at 10%. However, the Vietnamese tariff was lowered from 46% following a 90-day negotiation period.

Nintendo confirmed that the price of the Switch 2 in the U.S. will remain at $449.99, as initially announced. The company expressed regret for the delay in retail preorders and assured customers of the unchanged prices for the console and game bundles.

While the Nintendo Switch 2 and “Mario Kart World” bundle will be priced at $499.99, the digital versions of “Mario Kart World” and “Donkey Kong Bananza” will cost $79.99 and $69.99 respectively. Accessories for the Switch 2 will see price adjustments, with potential future changes in costs for all Nintendo products.

Best Buy also announced that they will start accepting preorders for the Nintendo Switch 2 and accessories on April 24. For the first time in six years, most Best Buy stores will open at midnight on launch day, June 5, to allow customers to purchase the new Switch 2 immediately.
