Ukraine has recorded numerous civilian casualties from Russian assaults in the last week, with three individuals killed in an attack on Wednesday night in Dnipro. Among the victims was a child in the drone strike, which occurred just before important meetings in Paris scheduled for Thursday. These meetings involve US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, special envoy Steve Witkoff, French President Emmanuel Macron, and other European officials to discuss the conflict.
Ukraine’s defense and foreign ministers, as well as President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s chief of staff, are also in Paris for discussions with US and EU delegations. However, the progress on achieving a broader ceasefire remains limited as talks have not shown significant signs of advancement. Moscow is accusing Ukraine of violating the energy ceasefire that Kyiv never agreed to, while Russia continues to maintain its hardline stance.
As the 30-day energy infrastructure ceasefire imposed by Moscow nears its end, Russia has reported that Ukrainian drones targeted various locations in Russia, leading to the downing of several UAVs. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov mentioned that future attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure will depend on orders from Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The conflict between Russia and Ukraine has resulted in significant ground assaults and aerial bombings, with both sides engaging in aggressive military actions. President Zelenskyy has made a diplomatic shift by offering to purchase Patriot air defense systems from the US following a deadly Russian attack on Sumy on Palm Sunday. The US has not yet responded to this offer.
Despite ongoing diplomatic efforts and international pledges of support to Ukraine, the situation remains tense, with reports of Chinese nationals fighting alongside Russian forces in Ukraine. Ukraine has claimed that several hundred Chinese nationals are part of Russia’s occupation forces, while China has denied these allegations.
