America’s Calcasieu Pass LNG facility in Louisiana, developed by U.S.-based Venture Global, has officially begun commercial operations. This milestone, achieved in under 68 months from the final investment decision in August 2019, marks one of the fastest greenfield LNG projects completed. The project’s CEO, Mike Sabel, expressed pride in the team’s efforts in successfully constructing and commissioning the facility. Long-term customers with multi-billion-dollar contracts are expected to benefit from the sale of U.S. LNG, positively impacting the U.S. balance of trade with European allies.

Venture Global’s innovative project configuration, featuring mid-scale liquefaction trains and sequential installation, overcame challenges such as a global pandemic and natural disasters. The Calcasieu Pass LNG project is now operational, boasting an exemplary safety record and attractive price points for customers worldwide. The facility is set to export 10 metric tons per year of LNG, with plans for additional capacity expansion in Louisiana.

Portugal’s Galp has received the first LNG cargo from Venture Global LNG under a sales and purchase agreement, solidifying their position in the natural gas market. Venture Global’s other projects, Plaquemines LNG and CP2 LNG, are also progressing, with regulatory approvals in place for further expansion. The company aims to develop over 100 mtpa of production capacity and implement carbon capture and sequestration projects at its LNG facilities.
