On April 16, 2025, it was reported that Woodside Energy, a major energy company in Australia, is currently in discussions with Uniper, a company from Germany, about a potential agreement for the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
Woodside confirmed the ongoing talks with Uniper regarding the LNG supply deal, but emphasized that the discussions are still in progress and no final agreement has been reached yet.
In a previous agreement signed in September 2022, Woodside had agreed to supply LNG to Uniper from its global portfolio into Europe, including Germany, until 2039, starting from January 2023. The deal involved up to twelve cargoes annually, which is equivalent to over 0.8 million tons per year or one billion cubic meters of natural gas. However, the supply starting from September 2031 was subject to Uniper finalizing its long-term strategic capacity bookings in Northwest Europe by March 2023.
The confirmation of the discussions with Uniper follows shortly after Woodside revealed a deal with Stonepeak to sell a portion of its stake in the Louisiana LNG development on the U.S. Gulf Coast.
