An ATV rider in Kansas City, Missouri went out of control over the weekend and struck a police officer while trying to avoid a tire-deflation device set up by the officer.
The dramatic incident was caught on camera, showing the officer grappling with the ATV before being knocked down when it suddenly reversed.
After the officer managed to stand up, the ATV performed a wheelie, ran over him, and then sped away.
The injured officer was left on the ground as onlookers gathered around him and another officer rushed to help in a police SUV.
The Kansas City Police Department told TMZ on Wednesday that the investigation is ongoing, and the suspect, who was riding a black and lime green Yamaha Raptor 700, is still on the loose.
During a press conference on Monday, the KCPD stated that the officer sustained head injuries but is recovering at home and is expected to return to duty soon.
The officer’s condition was reported to be improving on Wednesday by the authorities.
Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas condemned irresponsible ATV and dirt-bike riders who have been causing disturbances in the city recently, warning of strict enforcement measures by the KCPD, including arrests and felony charges for those operating such vehicles recklessly.
