In Big Stone Gap, Virginia, a prison attack resulted in injuries to five guards, as reported by state corrections officials. The assailants, mostly MS-13 gang members who had entered the U.S. illegally, were involved in the incident at Wallens Ridge State Prison in western Virginia on Friday. Among the guards injured, three were stabbed and required medical treatment, while the other two sustained injuries.

The Virginia Department of Corrections disclosed that six inmates participating in the attack had been convicted of violent crimes such as murder and rape. Five of them were identified as MS-13 gang members from El Salvador, unlawfully present in the country. The remaining inmate was a U.S. citizen associated with a different gang.

Chad Dotson, the director of the Virginia Department of Corrections, condemned the assault and emphasized that five of the attackers should not have been present in the country. Dotson praised the dedication of the officers, who risk their lives daily for public safety.

Additional information on the prison incident was not provided due to an ongoing investigation. Out of the injured guards, three were treated and discharged on the day of the attack, while the other two remained hospitalized in stable condition. Carla Miles, a spokesperson for the Department of Corrections, stated that she was unsure if the two guards were still in the hospital on Sunday.
