In 2015, Ashley Kaye inherited her childhood home in Waterford, Wisconsin after her father passed away. Despite her emotional attachment to the house, Kaye, 36, felt the urge to travel more and leave her corporate healthcare job. After meeting a full-time traveler while scuba diving in Honduras, Kaye was inspired to quit her job and start her own journey.
With savings of $37,000, Kaye struggled initially with the idea of not working but eventually embraced the freedom of traveling. She spent the next three years exploring different countries during the pandemic, which solidified her decision to sell her childhood home and pursue a mobile lifestyle.
Following the sale of her house, Kaye purchased a Toyota Tacoma truck for $42,934 and embarked on a journey along the Pan-American Highway. She visited various countries, learning about different cultures and enjoying the flexibility of setting her own pace.
Kaye’s nomadic lifestyle has taught her resilience and self-reliance. She plans to continue traveling and exploring new destinations, with no intention of returning to the United States. Currently taking a break from overlanding, Kaye has stored her truck in Argentina and is looking forward to spending the summer in Bermuda, a place she considers home.
Through her experiences, Kaye has found fulfillment in living freely, embracing uncertainty, and seizing opportunities for adventure.
