Bermuda-based Golar LNG has secured two major deals worth $13.7 billion for a $50 billion LNG project in South America. The project, located in Sierra Grande Norte, Argentina, involves LNG infrastructure development. Golar LNG has finalized agreements for the charter of two Floating LNG vessels, Hilli and MKII, with Southern Energy S.A. The vessels are expected to be operational by 2027 and 2028, respectively, contributing to Golar’s earnings backlog. These vessels will be part of one of the world’s largest FLNG projects, tapping into Argentina’s abundant natural gas resources. Golar LNG’s CEO, Karl Fredrik Staubo, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership and the project’s potential for LNG exports from Argentina. The project has received approvals from national and provincial governments in Argentina, setting the stage for significant LNG exportation from the region.
