A recent poll by Navigator Research suggests that one in four voters who supported Donald Trump are now regretting their decision or are disappointed with his performance as president. The poll, conducted from April 24 to 28 among 1,000 registered voters, reveals that 11 percent of Trump voters regret voting for him, while 16 percent are disappointed but do not regret their choice.

Moderates and non-MAGA Trump voters are among those expressing regret or disappointment, with 47 percent of moderates and 43 percent of non-MAGA voters falling into this category. However, the majority of Trump voters (73 percent) do not regret their vote or feel disappointed with his performance so far. Only 13 percent of MAGA Republicans regret their vote or are disappointed.

Overall, the poll shows that 44 percent of voters approve of Trump’s performance, while 54 percent disapprove. This marks a decrease from a 48 percent approval rating in February and an increase from 49 percent disapproval.

Navigator Research notes that the poll has a margin of error of +/- 3.1 percentage points, varying for different subgroups. Trump has dismissed recent approval rating polls as “fake.”

The focus group conducted alongside the poll revealed that independent voters in swing states like Pennsylvania, Michigan, and North Carolina are expressing deep regret and frustration over their support for Trump in the 2024 election. Some voters expressed concerns about the country moving towards authoritarianism and feeling let down by Trump’s unfulfilled promises on various issues.

Polls from other sources also indicate a decline in Trump’s approval ratings since the start of his second term. Factors such as Trump’s new tariffs and economic policies have contributed to the drop in his popularity. Trump’s approval ratings on the economy are particularly low, with net negative ratings among independents.

Trump’s approval ratings could continue to fluctuate in the future, depending on developments such as negotiations in the Russia-Ukraine war, tariff issues, and concerns about a possible recession.
