1 dead, 6 wounded in shooting at a small North Carolina college

A shooting at Elizabeth City State University in North Carolina resulted in one fatality and six injuries, leading to a campus lockdown. The incident took place after Yard Fest, the final event of the university’s Viking Fest celebration. The victim, a 24-year-old non-student, has not been identified yet. Four individuals sustained gunshot wounds, while two others were hurt during the chaos, with none of the injuries being life-threatening. The university expressed deep sorrow over the incident and increased security measures on campus. The lockdown has since been lifted, but access to the campus center is limited. Elizabeth City State University has around 2,300 students and is located about 50 miles south of Norfolk, Virginia.
